Easter Egg Lovelies

These lovely eggs (thanks, Joe!)...

... all wrapped up....

... in some silk ties from a previous life..

... become these beauties!

***Note - what Martha won't tell you:  my house smelled like the thrift shop (that basement smell that goes along with vintage textiles....) while I was boiling these eggs!!!!  And, the water reeked when I dumped it.  Ick, ICK, ICK!!!  I'm a little freaked out - not sure I want to eat these eggs now....  Also, started thinking about how unsafe the dye might be, especially with any dry cleaning chemical residue that might be in the ties....  Such a bummer - these eggs were from beautiful, happy pastured chickens, and I can't bear for them to go to waste.  Not sure what to do!

Happy Easter to Me

My family is at the Outer Banks celebrating Easter this year, so it was up to me to create some Easter memories for myself today!
First, I pulled out my Easter basket from when I was a kid, my name tag in my mother's handwriting still intact, and filled it with some special Easter goodies.

Then, I hard cooked some eggs for dying.

I've never tried coloring brown eggs before, but they worked nicely!

Of course the hues are different and I didn't attempt anything creative like last year, but I think they look lovely with my vintage Easter basket.

Then, I made some butter, a recent Easter tradition for me.  I know it sounds goofy, but I find something very spiritual about making butter on Easter Sunday - creating something luscious from grass-fed raw milk cream, the beautiful yellow color on a glorious spring day, the anticipation of an abundant life because of what Christ has done....

Easter Egg Fun

The last number of years, my family has been getting together on Easter Sunday afternoon to color eggs.  After we're done, we hide them for my nephew, then eat an evening Easter dinner together.  I'm not sure who has more fun, the adults (including the men!), or my nephew.

We're always trying new methods - this year's approach was electrical tape!

I'm thinking the adults had more fun than my nephew....  He ended up filming a documentary of the process on his camera and watched it while we continued decorating.

Fun, fun, fun!

First Annual Easter Egg Coloring Tradition

Now that my nephew is old enough to enjoy coloring and hunting Easter eggs, my sister invited the family to get together and color eggs, then enjoy Easter dinner.  How fun!  I loved Easter as a kid, so this brought back all those special memories....
